VIDEO: Existential Risk: Managing Extreme Technological Risk

At Garn Press our passion is exploring the complex relationships between people and the planet. This video, Existential Risk: Managing Extreme Technological Risk, features the Astronomer Royal, Lord Martin Rees (Photo TED: CC BY-NC 2.0); Bertrand Russell Professor of Philosophy, Huw Price; Executive Director of Cambridge University’s Centre for the Study of Existential Risk, Dr Sean O hEigeartaigh; and Academic Project Manager of the Centre, Dr Catherine Rhodes.

Martin Rees (featured) is a leading astrophysicist in the UK who is known throughout the world for his influential theoretical work on black hole formation and extragalactic radio sources. He has provided key evidence to contradict the Steady State theory of the evolution of the Universe. Rees states that in astrophysics the science of complexity is the greatest challenge of them all — one of the reasons being that it is enlightening our understanding of the biological world of which we are a part. Think galaxies. Think Earth. Think people.
