About Garn Press
The mission of Garn Press is the quest for knowledge that can be acted upon, with the practical goal of providing writers and readers with opportunities to engage with each other in new and original ways.
WELCOME TO GARN PRESS
One of the grand paradoxes of human achievement is that at a time when there is a new capacity for global participation in a virtual world, human activity is jeopardizing human existence in the physical world. People are, quite literally, changing the geology of the planet, which begs the question asked by Garn: What happens when a vast and ungovernable on-line world collides with a physical world in which human activity takes place at unprecedented and multiple geopolitical scales, involving people of widely differing, and often disconnected values, ethics, emotions, spiritual beliefs, levels of trust, interests and power?
How do we even approach the question? At Garn Press it’s the question that confronts us every day. It’s the question that both excites and yes, scares us. It keeps us on the edge, lucid and conscious that, more than at any other time in history, what happens to us and the planet will depend on what we humans do. We call it “actionable knowledge”. That’s our quest. Finding out what people can do to ensure that the planet is habitable for future generations, that the rich and powerful do not exploit them, and that the creative spirit, both online and offline, continues to push the boundaries of human imagination in a constant re-Visioning of our virtual and physical worlds.
Because our professional reach crosses paradigms, disciplines and professions, our authors are scholars and writers of diverse accomplishment. They are renowned within their fields. They publish with Garn Press because they share with us their great concern that in this sixth age of extinction, in this age of the anthropocene, what they know has been discounted, and the consequences of ignoring the knowledge that they have spent their lives discovering will have a negative effect, not only on future generations, but on the lives of all those who are alive today.
Thus the mission of Garn Press is the quest for knowledge that can be acted upon, with the practical goal of providing writers and readers with opportunities to engage with each other in new and original ways.
At Garn Press we are proposing a grand re-Imagining of the benefits of working in the interface between our virtual and physical worlds for the common good and mutual aid of people and the planet. We invite great scholars and writers, across paradigms, disciplines, and professions, to engage with the public in new and dynamic ways, to establish relationships with a general readership rather than restricting what they know to publications in their academic fields.
